"God in pity, made man beautiful and alluring after his own image, but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance"
Frankenstein, By Mary Shelley.
The concepts I have explored in this body of work derived from my previous works portraying childhood memories. In the beginning, this work focused on the aspect of childhood fears, in particular Pediophobia; The fear of dolls.
As I researched in depth on the fear of dolls, I began to realise that the concepts behind my works became more about the creator (myself), the creations ( the plaster and wax doll heads) and the destruction and mutilation I bestowed on them to create this body of work. It became more about the uncanniness within the object I created and less about my childhood fear of dolls.
I created these dolls heads, they were perfect little creations, but then I deliberately destroyed and mutilated them, to create this body of work. I battered and melted them to create an overpowering feeling of uncanniness and a sense of animation within them. I deliberately made them horrid and ugly, capturing every small imperfection which magnifies the concepts of creation and destruction within each individual piece of work.
